Back in 1979, Mike White, Sr. had a dream of starting his own company. He was a painter by trade and had learned the construction industry from past construction jobs. He started off by distributing flyers himself to promote business. The “company” consisted of pretty much one man and a station wagon! By 1980 he had a 1200 sq.ft. warehouse on Fremont in Livonia and had hired a carpenter and a superintendent. Mike′s wife, Cindy, managed the office. Business was growing, and by 1998 they had to move to larger quarters on Ten Mile Road in Farmington Hills. As the work increased, more carpenters and painters were added to the payroll.

Mike had developed a good reputation from his work on insurance claims and word had spread that this guy was consistently reliable and did high quality work with honesty and integrity.

As in any family owned business, the children came in to help out. Audrey started working at the company while still in high school, doing whatever needed to be done. She is currently the Marketing Manager. Michael, Jr. worked along with the tradesmen and learned the business from the bottom up. Michael is now the General Manager and his wife, Angie is the Finance Manager.

The company enjoyed tremendous growth, primarily due to achieving status as a preferred contractor for numerous insurance companies. This increased the volume and size of the jobs being handled.

In 2003, M.J. White & Son, Inc. started its own Contents and Water Mitigation Division. The number of employees grew, as did the size of the fleet of vehicles. Business was good, but still primarily on the west side. A decision was made to develop more business on the east side to take advantage of the growth trends in that area. Thus, in 2004, a branch office in Shelby Township was established.

Business boomed and they soon outgrew the Farmington Hills facility. More space was needed to accommodate storage for the Contents Division. In the fall of 2006, the company found a beautiful new home for its Contents and Water Mitigation Division, along with Marketing and Accounting, in Novi.

With this new 25,000 sq. ft. facility, there was room for more growth. In 2007, a Carpet Cleaning Division was added for both residential and commercial work. A team of Large Loss Specialists was also assembled, capable of handling even the largest disaster losses.

From its very modest start in 1979, M.J. White & Son, Inc. has grown to be one of the most respected general contractors in Michigan specializing in disaster restoration. The newly expanded territory now includes all of Lower Michigan below the "Thumb."

The company's success can be attributed to its passion to provide consistently reliable, high quality workmanship with honesty and integrity.
